The Gender Equity
Handbook is the product of a collaboration between the Rhode Island Commission on Women (RICW) and the Rhode Island College (RIC) Feinstein School of Education
and Human Development, with funding from the Rhode
Island Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. In 1999, a hardcopy of
the Handbook was made available to every school in Rhode Island, through funding from the
Rhode Island Department of Education and the Rhode Island Commission on Women. The
online version of the Handbook is funded by grant from the American
Association of University Women (AAUW). This important new resource, developed for classroom teachers by 45 classroom teachers and educators, was released in June 1999. The 400-page handbook consists of time-saving, uniform lesson plans for teaching gender equity in K-16 classrooms. The Handbook also contains information on gender issues in education, as well as information about print and online resources. A Resource Library for teachers, located at RICW, contains many of the videos and other resources described in the Handbook. Please call RICW at 401-222-6105 for more information about borrowing these materials. The Handbook reflects the efforts of many of our state's educators committed to gender equity in all Rhode Island schools. We thank all of them for their contributions. |
